the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc gives up clean, crisp notes of...
An amazing base wine, the 2015 Face à Face Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. He has soaring aromatics of incense, bakers spice, licorice, grilled meat and toasted bread that are mixed with perfumed red fruits. The palate is full bodied, silky smooth, balanced and long with fine grained tannins adding edge and precision.
The only 2017 presented, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Château Sixtine (50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre) is another full-bodied, powerful wine that has solid density and depth as well as baby fat. Offering terrific notes of black fruits, chocolate, graphite, and leafy herbs, it has beautiful purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish.
Also medium gold-colored, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Des Generations Marie-Leoncie Blanc offers more orange blossom, honeysuckle, toasted brioche, and white flower aromas and flavors. It's rich and concentrated, with good acidity, some background oak, and a great finish. It's a brilliant white from this estate that's going to keep for over a decade.
Reminding me of the 2016, yet with even more polished and sweetness to its tannin, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois offers a full-bodied, ripe, sexy style to go with pedal-to-the-metal notes of black currants, roasted herbs, licorice and toasted spices. Coming from the La Crau lieu-dit and aged in 30% new barrels and the balance in...
The more modern-styled 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Gaston Philippe gives up more cassis, smoky oak, graphite, and charred earth aromas and flavors. More spice and floral notes develop with time in the glass, it's full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with sweet tannin and a great finish. It's not for traditionalists out there but is a brilliant wine...
The deepest colored of the trio and a true “Wow” wine, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Folie is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre that was completely destemmed and brought up 10% new barrels, with the balance in demi-muids. An insane bouquet of black cherry liqueur, blackberries, crushed rocks, and pepper garrigue gives way to a full-bodied, incredibly...
As always, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De Mon Aïeul is all Grenache (from La Serres, La Crau, and La Guigasse) that was not destemmed and was brought up all in used demi-muids. It's an extraordinary wine, offering a mammoth bouquet of kirsch liqueur, black raspberries, ground pepper, white flowers, and spice. Full-bodied, concentrated, and opulent...
Getting more than one exclamation in the notes, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is a deep, rich yet vibrant red that offers a kaleidoscope of kirsch liqueur, garrigue, crushed flowers, Asian spices, and cured meats. It's more opulent and sexier than the 2010, fresher and purer than the 2007, has deep, full-bodied aromas and flavors, and a...
The same wine as the Mon Aïeul release yet still aging in a single 300-liter barrel, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Not For You offers an extraordinary bouquet of kirsch liqueur, cured meats, white flowers, and spice. It's deep, full-bodied, awesomely concentrated yet incredibly elegant, with a weightless texture. Seeming to have one foot in the past and...
