As always, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Deus-Ex Machina is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, with the Grenache aged in concrete tanks and the Mourvèdre in new barrels.
This richer, full-bodied, fleshier 2018 has a fabulous mid-palate as well as a complex nose of charcuterie, roasted spices, peppery garrigue, loamy earth, blackcurrant and blackberry.
This is certainly the more advanced, more fluid style of the vintage, while offering plenty of power and richness, as well as good length on the finish.
It's a wine of great beauty, but this is unquestionably a more advanced and accessible vintage for this cuvée. . Jeb Dunnuck
