A blend of 70% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, and the rest a mix of varieties, aged for 12-14 months in older barrel, the 2014 Domaine Moulin-Tacussel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an elegant, mid-weight red that delivers already complex aromas of kirsch and currant styled fruits intermixed with loads of licorice, ground pepper, and Provencal herbs on the nose. Showing more minerality and a savory, gamey quality with air, it possesses a medium-bodied mouth feel as well as notable freshness and focus, good balance, and plenty of length. While it won’t make old bones, it will be better in a year or three, and have 7-8 years of total longevity. Overall, a delicious, very enjoyable Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
