Domaine Le Clos Du Caillou
Organic Farming Estate
Ideally situated in the northeast of the appellation, in the commune of Courthézon, the domaine’s vineyards cover 9 hectares of vines in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, and 44 hectares in the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, with the particularity of being located on the edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
Le Clos currently represents 17 hectares of vines, on exceptional terroirs, producing great, rich, silky wines.
Our vineyards are rich in red grape varieties, offering a wide range of aromas and highly complex wines. Grenache makes up the majority of our vines, adapting easily to the hot, dry southern climate. It offers wines of great delicacy.
This grape variety, the king of our appellation, blends wonderfully with mourvèdre, syrah, cinsault, carignan, counoise and vaccarése, each bringing their own touch of personality. Our whites, represented by viognier, roussanne, clairette (rose and white), bourboulenc and grenache blanc, account for 10% of our production.
Concerned with living in harmony with our environment, without disturbing the plant and animal environment already present, our vineyard is entirely organic. For several decades now, the vineyards have been managed in a sustainable manner, favoring natural methods wherever possible. Claude Pouizin worked his vines mainly with his tractor and a few tools, but with the strength of his hands. Jean-Denis Vacheron has continued to use healthy farming methods. Today, our philosophy is evolving towards biodynamic viticulture, always with a view to authenticity and enhancing the value of our wines.
