He discovered a unique terroir, based on red clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxides, which the famous geologist Henri Enjalbert would later compare to those of Burgundy’s finest crus.
Aware of the potential of this extraordinary site, Aimé Guibert decided to plant non-traditional grape varieties for the region, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Malbec. It was an audacious gamble: to create a great wine for laying down in a region previously considered a land of volume. The gamble paid off – and exceeded it. The first vintage, in 1978, astounded international critics and placed the domaine among the world’s greatest wines.
An artisanal and organic philosophy

The estate, which is farmed organically, rejects all chemical inputs, herbicides and pesticides. The vines are worked by hand, yields are deliberately low (around 30 hl/ha), and each plot is vinified separately to reveal the richness of its expression.
Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, without enzymes or oenological aids. Aging, patient and precise, takes place in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, without excess wood, to preserve the wine’s natural balance. This artisanal approach, inherited from the greatest Burgundy estates, gives the wines a unique personality, combining depth, freshness and tension.
Le Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge – A Wine of Legend
Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge is now considered one of the finest wines in southern France. A blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by noble grape varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Tannat and Malbec, it combines Bordeaux structure with Mediterranean soul.
