Coming from sand and clay soils located in the northern/western part of the AOC, the 2001 Vieille Julienne is a 100% destemmed blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Counoise, and 5% Cinsault that’s aged for 12-18 months in very old foudres. Drinking beautifully with textbook aromas of earth dark fruits, licorice, and spice, with a liquid rock like minerality component, the wine is medium bodied on the palate with a smooth, supple texture, good concentration, and an excellent finish. It should continue to perform for another 5-8 years.
