Saint Prefert Famille Isabel Ferrando Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022 is a masterful blend, sourced from the finest terroirs of the Saint Prefert district. Its exceptional balance comes from a precise mix of Grenache (75%), Mourvèdre (11%), Cinsault (12%), and Syrah (2%), grown on rolled pebbles, blue clay, gravel, and sandy soils. Aged in large foudres and amphorae, this wine preserves purity and vibrancy. The nose reveals deep aromas of black fruits, fig, and crushed strawberries, enhanced by floral and spicy nuances. The palate is silky and velvety, with a firm attack, a taut mid-palate, and a lingering finish, uplifted by a noble bitterness.

Why choose this wine:

Saint Prefert Famille Isabel Ferrando Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022 is a refined and structured wine, perfect for lovers of great Rhône crus. Its aromatic intensity and complexity make it a great match for roast meats, game, spiced dishes, and aged cheeses. This cuvée, which replaces the estate’s historic wines, marks a new era for Isabel Ferrando’s vision and promises remarkable aging potential, allowing it to unveil its full grandeur over time.

Reminding me of the 2020, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is based on 60% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre and Cinsault, and the rest Syrah. Its medium ruby hue is followed by a gorgeous perfume of black raspberry, white pepper, Provençal garrigue and crushed-stone-like minerality. With medium- to full-bodied richness, a seamless, layered palate, and ripe, polished, yet well-crafted tannins, this is an absolute gem of a vintage that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and develop over the next decade or more.
