The Louis-Benjamin – Didier Dagueneau Les Jardins de Babylone Moelleux 2019 is one of France’s most distinctive and sought-after sweet wines. Created by Didier Dagueneau on the steep terraced slopes of Aubertin near Jurançon and continued today by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, this tiny vineyard produces extraordinarily precise wines where the natural richness of Petit Manseng is balanced by striking acidity. The 2019 Moelleux comes from Petit Manseng grown on clay and rolled-pebble soils locally known as “pouding.” Harvested by hand, the wine is fermented in wood and undergoes extended ageing before release. With 114 g/l of residual sugar, the 2019 possesses impressive concentration, yet its vibrant acidity provides extraordinary tension and energy. Awarded 94/100 by La Revue du Vin de France, this is a rare, profound and exceptionally age-worthy sweet wine.

Why choose this wine:

Les Jardins de Babylone is remarkable because sweetness never defines the wine on its own. Petit Manseng combines extraordinary concentration with naturally vibrant acidity, creating a wine that can be simultaneously rich, deep and remarkably energetic. The 2019's 114 g/l of residual sugar is balanced by striking freshness, while its tiny production and 94/100 RVF rating make it particularly compelling for collectors of rare Dagueneau wines.

Brilliant golden colour. The bouquet reveals candied pineapple, mango, ripe apricot, peach, orange zest and acacia honey with delicate floral and spicy nuances. The palate is broad, concentrated and almost tactile, yet remarkable acidity cuts through the richness and gives the wine exceptional precision. Exotic and candied fruits unfold across the palate before a remarkably long, vibrant finish. Despite its considerable sweetness, the wine never feels heavy, achieving a superb balance between richness, freshness and depth.
