The 2005 vintage of La Reine des Bois from Domaine de la Mordorée is a benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This flagship cuvée, based on Grenache with Syrah and Mourvèdre, now reveals its full maturity with remarkable finesse. The bouquet offers notes of black plum, leather, truffle and dried herbs. The palate is broad and velvety, with a perfectly resolved structure and a lingering, elegant finish. A wine of great depth and refined character.

Why choose this wine:

Because it reflects the pinnacle of La Mordorée’s craftsmanship in a great vintage now at its peak. This 2005 marries power, elegance and mature complexity. A rare chance to enjoy a fully evolved Châteauneuf-du-Pape, perfect for connoisseurs, memorable occasions or refined pairings.

A brilliant showing, the ’05 Reine des Bois is still fantastically young and dense, showing blackberry, cassis, graphite, roasted herbs and smoke on the nose. There are hints of underlying garrigue and southern Rhône typicity and the wine sports serious depth and richness, all with edgy, focused energy. Full bodied, concentrated, balanced and very long, this needs another 5 to 7 years and then should drink beautifully over the following 20. Quickly becoming my favorite vintage from this producer.
