Clos du Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Quartz 2014 is a remarkable cuvée made from 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah, sourced from old vines planted on sandy soils with rolled pebbles in the “Les Cassanets” vineyard. It displays a raspberry-red color with crushed strawberry highlights. The nose offers forest spices, star anise, vanilla, and cherry liqueur. On the palate, it is smooth and elegant, with flavors of wild plums and cherry liqueur, supported by refined tannins and a long aromatic finish.

Why choose this wine:

Produced by Clos du Caillou, a benchmark estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Quartz 2014 reflects the balance and depth of a superb vintage. This wine pairs beautifully with salmis of pigeon, beef Stroganoff, or Galician ribeye steak. With excellent aging potential and refined complexity, it is a must-have for Rhône lovers and collectors of elegant, terroir-driven reds.

The 2014 Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Quartz is a more complex, medium-bodied, almost Burgundian expression of this cuvée. Lots of kirsch, green herbs, garrigue, and flowery notes all emerge from this elegant, seamless Châteauneuf that’s already drinking nicely, yet it should easily evolve for another decade or so. It’s ready to go, though.
