Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2017 is one of the Rhône Valley’s most prestigious and collectible wines. This iconic, tiny-production Beaucastel cuvée is distinguished by its exceptionally high proportion of Mourvèdre. The 2017 is almost entirely Mourvèdre, with small amounts of Grenache, Syrah and Counoise, and was aged in a large foudre. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it a perfect 100-point score and places it alongside the legendary 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2016 vintages. Blackcurrant, blackberry, ground pepper, truffle and charcuterie define an extraordinarily rich and complex bouquet. The palate is full-bodied, opulent and massively concentrated, with a stacked mid-palate, building tannins and a sensational finish. Dunnuck recommends seven to eight years of bottle age before enjoying it over the following four to five decades.

Why choose this wine:

Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2017 combines all the attributes of a serious collector’s wine: an iconic Beaucastel cuvée, tiny production, an almost entirely Mourvèdre-based blend, a perfect 100-point rating and extraordinary longevity. Its Mourvèdre dominance gives it a darker, more structured and profoundly savoury personality than Grenache-led Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Jeb Dunnuck places it firmly among the greatest vintages of this legendary cuvée.

Saturated, almost opaque purple colour. The bouquet is extraordinarily intense, with blackcurrant and blackberry joined by ground pepper, truffle, charcuterie and complex savoury nuances. The palate is full-bodied, powerful and opulent, with immense concentration and a densely layered mid-palate. Dark fruit, spice and earthy notes unfold gradually as the tannic structure builds. The finish is sensationally long and profound. A monumental Châteauneuf-du-Pape built for decades of evolution.
