Domaine de La Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chaupin 2003 is a 100% Grenache cuvée from old vines rooted in sandy soils and galets roulés. The hot 2003 vintage produced a rich, full-bodied wine with notes of black fruits, orange marmalade, licorice, and Provençal herbs. The palate is velvety and concentrated, with ripe tannins and impressive balance. Chaupin 2003 is both powerful and elegant, showing the full potential of the vintage.

Why choose this wine:

A benchmark estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Janasse crafted a standout wine with Chaupin 2003, rated 95/100 by Robert Parker. This mature vintage pairs beautifully with game in sauce, braised meats, or lamb tagine with dried fruits. A warm, expressive, and nuanced Grenache that speaks of terroir and time.

Even better, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin was smoking good, with awesome herbes de Provence, pepper, garrigue and sweet Grenache-driven fruit. Full-bodied and rich, with sweet tannin, I loved it, and would plan on drinking bottles over the coming couple of years as well.
