Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2007 is one of the legendary wines of the Southern Rhône. Awarded a perfect 100 points in The Wine Advocate, this exceptional vintage was described by Jeb Dunnuck as one of the finest Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines ever produced. A monumental expression of the celebrated 2007 vintage, it combines extraordinary concentration, richness and remarkable precision. The bouquet reveals intense blackcurrant, roasted meats, liquorice and distinctive savoury, blood-like nuances. Full-bodied and immensely concentrated, the palate displays exceptional purity, focus and balance, without any sensation of heaviness. In his review published in March 2017, Dunnuck highlighted the wine’s remarkably youthful deep-purple colour and outstanding longevity, while noting that it was already drinking beautifully. Now approaching two decades of bottle age, the 2007 offers a rare opportunity to experience a legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape at maturity. With a stated drinking window of 2015-2037, it remains a remarkable collector’s wine with further ageing potential.

Why choose this wine:
A bigger, richer, more concentrated wine than the ethereally textured Cuvee Chaupin, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage as well as one of the finest Chateauneuf du Papes ever made. Offering notes of cassis, roasted meats, beef blood and licorice, this heavenly 2007 is full-bodied, hugely concentrated and rich yet shows incredible purity, focus and precision, with no sensation of heaviness or weight. It’s still deep purple colored, with no signs of evolution, and it has another two decades of life. Having said that, it’s a gorgeous drink today.
