Mas de Daumas Gassac IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert – Cité d’Aniane Rouge 2024 confirms the remarkable pedigree of this historic Gassac Valley estate. Tasted from barrel by Birte Jantzen for Jeb Dunnuck, the vintage received an outstanding provisional score of 96-98 points. Cabernet Sauvignon is once again the dominant variety and strongly defines the personality of the wine. Still remarkably young and fruit-driven, the 2024 combines blueberry and blackberry with floral notes, cumin, star anise, ink, black pepper, tobacco and red pepper. Despite this aromatic depth, the wine remains impressively fresh, with an unexpected saline character adding energy and precision. The palate is supple and generous, supported by a tight yet remarkably fine structure. Birte Jantzen expects the wine to gain further complexity, finesse and depth with bottle age and sees it developing beautifully over the next two decades.

Why choose this wine:

The 2024 combines ripe fruit and generosity with remarkable freshness and salinity. Its provisional 96-98 point rating from Birte Jantzen makes it a particularly promising vintage for collectors of Mas de Daumas Gassac. Cabernet Sauvignon provides depth and structure, while fine tannins and freshness give the wine the balance required for extended ageing. Still at the beginning of its evolution, it should become increasingly complex and refined with time.

Deep, dark purple colour. The youthful bouquet reveals blueberry and blackberry alongside flowers, black pepper and spice, followed by cumin, star anise, ink, tobacco and red pepper. The palate is supple and generous yet beautifully structured, with tight but remarkably fine tannins. Vibrant freshness and an unexpected saline character provide energy and precision. The finish is long, fresh and focused. Still extremely youthful, the 2024 promises to gain considerable complexity, finesse and depth with bottle age.
