The 2023 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Les Hauts Lieux is one of the Rhône Valley’s finest wines, awarded 97 points by Jeb Dunnuck and ranked among the very best wines of the vintage. Produced from a higher-altitude parcel and blending 65% Grenache with 25% Mourvèdre, this cuvée offers a more structured, focused and age-worthy expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The cooler terroir and higher Mourvèdre content bring exceptional depth, freshness and longevity. A remarkable wine destined to reward patient cellaring.

Why choose this wine:

Les Hauts Lieux is the most structured and cellar-worthy wine in the Vieille Julienne range after the legendary Réserve. Its balance of concentration, freshness and mineral precision makes it one of the standout wines of the 2023 vintage and an essential bottle for collectors of great Rhône wines.

Coming from a slightly higher elevation parcel and based on 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, and the rest Cinsault and Counoise, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts-Lieux offers darker berries, scorched earth, pepper, and sappy garrigue. The slightly cooler terroir as well as the higher Mourvèdre component always gives this a more inward, tight, focused, structured style. It's medium to full-bodied, has beautiful tannins and integrated acidity, and shows a gorgeously balanced, pure profile. It will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age as one of the longer-lived wines in the vintage. Drink 2029-2045.
