Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre 2023 is one of the estate’s most distinctive Grenache expressions. It is produced entirely from 100-year-old Grenache vines planted on the sandy soils of the Charbonnières Est and Mourre de Gaud lieux-dits. The grapes are fully destemmed, and the wine is aged for 18 months exclusively in concrete, an approach Domaine Giraud has followed since 2020. This allows the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront without any overt oak influence. Awarded 95 points by Jeb Dunnuck, the 2023 reveals bright raspberry, pepper, scorched earth and sappy violet and floral nuances. Medium to full-bodied, pure and layered, it combines fine tannins with beautifully integrated acidity. Dunnuck highlights its complex, floral and unmistakably Provençal personality. Already attractive today, it has the balance and depth to evolve beautifully through 2040.

Why choose this wine:

Grenaches de Pierre 2023 brings together 100% Grenache, century-old vines, sandy soils and 18 months of concrete ageing. This combination produces a particularly pure and refined expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with fine tannins rather than sheer power. Its 95-point Jeb Dunnuck rating and 2025-2040 drinking window underline both the quality of the vintage and its long-term potential.

Bright ruby with purple highlights. The nose is remarkably pure and floral, revealing fresh raspberry, violet, pepper and scorched-earth nuances. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered and precise, with fine tannins and beautifully integrated acidity providing freshness and energy. Raspberry, flowers, spice and earthy mineral notes carry through to a long, elegant finish. A complex and distinctly Provençal expression of old-vine Grenache.
