In just a few decades, Domaine Anne et Jean-François Ganevat, based in Rotalier in the Jura combe, has become a worldwide icon of natural and biodynamic wine. Jean-François Ganevat, nicknamed Fanfan, returned to the Jura in 1998, having gained valuable experience at Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet. There, he took over the family estate, with its rich history dating back to 1650, and initiated visionary work on Jura terroirs.

With the help of his sister Anne, he also developed a trading business in 2013, enabling him to broaden his offer without ever compromising quality. Together, they create rare, singular cuvées from a variety of terroirs, cultivated with absolute respect for nature. The estate has been certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter) since 2005.

A complex, living terroir

The vineyards of Domaine Anne et Jean-François Ganevat extend over 13 hectares, supplemented by supplies from the wine trade. It lies on the steep slopes of the Combe de Rotalier, where blue marl, schist and clay give the wines remarkable tension and energy. The vines, a third of which are over a hundred years old, are cultivated using massal selections and are home to a unique mosaic of more than 25 grape varieties, some of them forgotten, which he is passionately rehabilitating.

Biodynamic viticulture is based on traditional practices: plant-based preparations, manual tillage, minimal use of copper and sulfur. The aim is to reinforce the natural balance of the vines to promote a pure and sincere expression of the terroir.

A non-interventionist winemaking philosophy

Jean-François Ganevat vinifies without inputs, with indigenous yeasts and often without added sulfur. His reds are generally vinified in whole bunches, and his whites are aged for long periods in foudres, demi-muids, Burgundy barrels and even terracotta jars. This patience and quest for the right balance give rise to vibrant, deep cuvées with bewitching textures.

Each cuvée tells the story of a plot, a grape variety, a vintage. The names, often poetic, reveal the free spirit of the winemaker. Ganevat follows no dogma, but pursues a demanding aesthetic ideal in search of pure emotion.

Exceptional wines

  • My Father’s Vines The estate’s iconic cuvée, made from Savagnin grapes and aged for 10 years without topping up. A monument of balance, depth and complexity. Rated 100/100, it is the epitome of Jean-François Ganevat’s work.

  • Les Chalasses Marnes Bleues Les Chalasses: an aged Chardonnay from a blue marl terroir, bold, pure and chiselled, with admirable tension.

  • Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes Chardonnay from very old vines, expressing the fullness of the terroir, with a mineral structure and very long ageing potential.

  • Vin Jaune Matured under sail for over 6 years, Savagnin takes on a whole new dimension. Rich, long, with notes of walnut, curry and dried fruit, it is a model of balance and power.

  • Trousseau Trousseau: an emblematic red wine, lacy and highly perfumed, with notes of red fruit and spices and an elegant, lively mouthfeel.

  • Cuvées de négoce (Anne & Jean-François Ganevat) Cuvées such as “Kopin”, “Y’a bon the Canon” and “J’en veux”, which blend Jura terroirs with grapes from elsewhere, are always sincere and luminous.
