The Clos du Calvaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Terres de La Crau 2024 is one of the Roumieux family’s finest single-terroir wines, produced from some of the estate’s oldest vines on the celebrated La Crau lieu-dit. Here, Grenache and its complementary varieties grow on a complex combination of rolled pebbles, sand and clay, creating a wine that naturally combines concentration with elegance. The Clos du Calvaire vineyards are organically farmed, with an increasing focus on agroecology and preserving biodiversity and soil life. Extended ageing in traditional foudres on the lees refines the wine’s structure while allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront. The 2024 vintage offers a compelling combination of ripe fruit, depth and freshness, making this a serious and age-worthy expression of one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most celebrated terroirs.

Why choose this wine:

Les Terres de La Crau stands apart through its parcel-focused identity and its old vines planted on the prestigious La Crau terroir. The estate itself describes the wine as combining finesse with concentration, showing blackberry, rose and spice aromas followed by generous fruit, enveloping tannins and a chocolate-toned finish. It is a superb choice for collectors and Rhône enthusiasts looking for a deeper and more terroir-driven expression of Clos du Calvaire.

Deep ruby with garnet highlights. The bouquet gradually reveals blackberry, ripe raspberry and black cherry alongside rose, Mediterranean herbs and spice. With air, liquorice, pepper, cocoa and warm stone nuances emerge. The palate is broad and generous, with concentrated fruit framed by ripe, enveloping tannins. Despite its depth, the wine retains impressive finesse and freshness, bringing energy and balance. The finish is long, spicy and generous, with a subtle chocolate note. A refined and profound Châteauneuf-du-Pape that beautifully expresses the distinctive character of La Crau.
