Domaine de Trévallon IGP Alpilles Rouge 2023 in 6-litre Mathusalem is an extraordinary large-format presentation of one of Provence’s most distinctive wines. From the northern slopes of the Alpilles, the 2023 combines equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the historic blend that has defined Trévallon since Éloi Dürrbach established the estate. The vines grow on exceptionally stony limestone and clay soils. Following an extremely dry growing season, harvest began with Syrah on September 4 and finished with Cabernet Sauvignon on September 19. Trévallon follows a traditional approach with hand harvesting, whole-cluster fermentation without destemming or inoculated yeasts, followed by more than two years of slow ageing in large foudres. The 2023 combines complexity and energy with fine tannins and a distinctly saline finish. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth while Syrah contributes flesh, spice and Mediterranean character. In this exceptional 6-litre format, equivalent to eight standard bottles, it becomes an impressive collector’s piece with serious long-term cellaring potential.
Wine characteristics :
Why choose this wine:
Deep ruby-purple colour. The bouquet combines dark and red berries with blackberry, cassis, black olive and Provençal garrigue. Syrah brings pepper and fine spice, while Cabernet Sauvignon contributes a straighter, more structured character. The palate is refined and energetic, with fine, silky tannins, excellent freshness and impressive depth. Spice and Mediterranean herbs carry through to a long, mouthwatering and saline finish. Expressive in its youth yet clearly built for extended ageing.
