Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2010 stands among the most extraordinary wines of the Southern Rhône. Awarded a perfect 100 points by Robert Parker in The Wine Advocate, this exceptional vintage combines monumental concentration, remarkable richness and extraordinary longevity. Produced by the Sabon family, the wine reached 16% natural alcohol, reflecting the impressive ripeness and concentration of the vintage. Its deep, almost black-purple colour introduces an intense bouquet of pure blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by charcoal, incense, truffles and delicate spring flowers. Full-bodied and immensely concentrated, the palate displays exceptional volume, glycerin richness and a luxurious, opulent texture. Robert Parker describes the 2010 Vieilles Vignes as slightly tighter and more restrained than the estate’s Cuvée Chaupin from the same vintage, while emphasising its extraordinary depth and richness. With a recommended drinking window of 2019-2049, the 2010 is now entering a particularly compelling stage of its evolution, offering both mature complexity and outstanding long-term ageing potential. A legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape for serious collectors and enthusiasts of the finest Rhône wines.

Why choose this wine:

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2010 combines an outstanding vintage, a perfect 100-point Robert Parker rating and exceptional longevity. Its remarkable concentration, richness and aromatic complexity make it one of the most impressive expressions of Domaine de la Janasse. Parker particularly highlights the wine's extraordinary volume, glycerin-rich texture and profound depth. With a drinking window extending through 2049, it offers the rare opportunity to enjoy a great Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has already benefited from more than fifteen years of bottle ageing while retaining considerable potential for further development.

The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, which achieved 16% natural alcohol, possesses an inky/purple color. It is slightly tighter and more restrained than the 2010 Chaupin, but it has enormous volume as well as incredible glycerin, richness and fat. A huge bouquet of pure blackberry and black currant fruit intermixed with charcoal, incense, truffles and spring flowers is followed by a prodigious, full-bodied wine that is capable of 20+ years of evolution. I hope Chateauneuf du Pape enthusiasts can find some of this amazing wine!
