Finally, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Plume Du Peintre, a tiny production cuvée based on 100% Grenache aged in new barrels, reveals a saturated, almost inky purple color, as well as a gigantic bouquet of cassis, bloody meat, lead pencil, tobacco, chocolate and crushed stone. This monstrous wine in every respect nevertheless displays remarkable purity, a full-bodied, layered and homogeneous texture, no hardness and an exhilarating finish that offers more and more minerality with time spent in the glass. You don't often see wines like this today, but this is a singular, heavenly Grenache that will need 4-5 years of bottle age and will live for 30-40 years if stored properly, given its concentration, structure and purity.
