This wine was spectacular. Coming from the eastern side of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in soils with fewer of the famous galets roulés (pebbles the size of melons and footballs that cover much of the appellation), Croix de Bois is exceptional. The superb 2000 vintage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois reveals aromas of sweet cherry liqueur interwoven with pepper, incense and Asian spices. Spicy, with distinctive characteristics of garrigue and lavender, it's full-bodied, unctuously textured, intoxicatingly splendid, a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
