Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2018 magnum

The 2018 Cornas is a classic wine from this renowned estate, composed of 100% Syrah, mainly from the Reynard lieu-dit, aged in old foudres and barrels.
This is a classic, old-school wine, and the 2018 is a Clape in its own right with its aromas and flavors of bloody blue fruit, liquid violet, smoky game, pepper, bay leaf and iron.
More medium to full-bodied on the palate, it lacks the richness of the 2015 and 2017, instead reminding me of the 2016 in its incredible purity, balance and finesse.
The structure and tannins, which were more present in barrel, are rounder and more homogeneous, giving it a certain appeal from the outset.
It's true that I followed this bottle for several days and it certainly benefited from a lot of air.
This is a vintage that could certainly continue to offer pleasure over the next decade and never really fade, but I suspect it will firm up quickly over the next 2-4 years and will need at least a decade of bottle age to show its true potential.
