The Châteauneuf du Pape Sanctus Sanctorum 2018, which is produced on a very small scale, comes from a single parcel in the famous La Crau locality and is aged in demi-muids. Only released in magnum, it has always been one of the most singular and brilliant expressions of Grenache, whatever the vintage. The 2018 won't break this trend, but it ranks behind some of the greats, such as the 2007, 2010, 2016 and 2017. Revealing a translucent ruby hue and a gorgeous bouquet of kirsch liqueur, ground pepper, charcuterie, candle wax, garrigue and Provencal spices, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness and a seamless, Grand Cru Burgundy-like mouthfeel that offers sensational richness without coming across as heavy or ponderous. With no rough edges, magnificent tannins, perfect balance and a lovely finish, this wine will drink beautifully for the next 15 years or more... Jeb Dunnuck
