Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee XXL 2019

Châteauneuf Du Pape XXL 2019 is pure magic and one of the most singular wines ever made. Composed of 65% Grenache and the remainder Syrah and other grape varieties, only 30% of the grapes were destemmed and the wine was aged entirely in demi-muids. While previous vintages of this beauty were almost excessive, the 2019 has a more elegant, pure and balanced profile, as well as incredible aromas of ripe red and black fruits, herbes de Provence, ground pepper, violets and other Southern Rhône-like notes. Incredibly powerful and opulent, it manages to remain perfectly balanced, with wonderful freshness, silky yet substantial tannins and a stunning finish. Unfortunately, only just over 300 were produced, so it won't be easy to find, but it's one of the great wines of all time... Jeb Dunnuck
